Avoid a split in the votes, says Kit Siang

KOTA KINABALU: Opposition heavyweight Lim Kit Siang has asked voters in this constituency to ignore PKR's Christina Liew by supporting DAP's Hiew King Chew and avoiding a split in the votes.

In the four-cornered fight for Kota Kinabalu are also Kong Yu Kiong (independent) and Chin Tek Ming (BN-PBS).

Not willing to re-open the contentious issue of DAP and PKR’s failure to reach an agreement for a one-on-one fight with Barisan Nasional's Chin in Kota Kinabalu, Lim said people should be single-minded in supporting DAP.

Lim, who is DAP adviser, was here Saturday for a one-day visit to the state to shore up support for DAP candidates. He claimed that party reports indicated there was a winning chance in Kota Kinabalu.

He urged voters to support the DAP as this was a good opportunity for the party to win back the parliamentary seat that it lost in 1990.

Unlike the party state elections chairman Hiew, Lim was more realistic in predicting that the DAP has a chance to win five state and three parliamentary seats.

Hiew had predicted that the party would sweep all 10 state and five parliamentary seats it is contesting.

"They must be single-minded if not the votes will split," said Lim who later on Saturday campaigned in Sandakan and Tawau for his DAP candidates.
