Don't listen to rumours, Penangites told

PULAU PINANG, MON:

The people of Penang have been advised not to be influenced by rumours, especially through SMS, that there were unrest in the state. Northeast District Police Chief ACP Azam Abdul Hamid said even the police had received phone calls spreading such rumours.

“Till today, we have received four such calls and we are tracking down the callers’ identities,” he said. 

Azam also advised the people not to spread the SMS message that they would be a mammoth gathering on Thursday, in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul. 

He clafified that permit had only been given for the religious gathering, not for a political gathering.
