PKR Will Discuss With DAP On Penang's Deputy CM Post

PENANG, March 9 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will discuss with the DAP its intention to get a deputy chief minister for Penang, state PKR chairman Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said.

He said that apart from the deputy chief minister post, other matters which would be discussed with DAP soon included the quota for the state exco.

The opposition pact succeeded in capturing the state in the 12th general election yesterday, with future Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng scheduled to take his oath on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference to introduce the party's candidate who won in the 12th general election, here, Zahrain said that he was in the midst of getting advise from the central PKR on the exco composition.

He said that basically, it has been agreed that the party, which won most of the state seats namely DAP, would lead the opposition pact and take up the chief minister post.

As for PAS, he said that due consideration would be given to the party which only won one seat in the new government.

"What is important now is we have to ensure that the new chief minister takes his oath as technically Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon is still the chief minister," he said.

In the election, the DAP won four parliamentary and 19 states seats contested in Penang, while PKR won four parliamentary seats and nine of the 16 state seats it contested.

PAS, which contested in two parliamentary and five state seats, only won one state seat while the Barisan Nasional, represented by candidates from Umno, won 11 of the 15 state seats allocated to the party.

Zahrain said that PKR would ensure that all its elected representatives kept their promises.
