Penang Umno to form 'shadow' Exco, portfolios to be assigned next week

BALIK PULAU, Fri:

Penang Umno assemblymen will form a shadow State Exco next week. Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the 11 Umno representatives would be assigned “portfolios” to match those held by 11 DAP-PKR state executive councillors.

The state opposition leader Datuk Azhar Ibrahim would hold a meeting next week to decide who get which portfolios.

“As the opposition, our function is to ensure that the state government delivers its election promises to the people. Since we are now the opposition, we will offer constructive feedback to ensure the government runs its administration smoothly,” Hilmi said after attending officiating a visit by the St John Chapel Choir of Singapore to the Centre for Special Children in conjunction with Easter.

The shadow Exco would work closely with the state government by raising public grievances in the state assembly next month.

Hilmi said he would also meet Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to discuss issues and projects related to tourism, health and education.
“Several of the projects were approved by the previous state government,” he said.
