Penang Govt Detects Malpractices In Land Transactions

PENANG, March 22 (Bernama) -- Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng claims that the state government has detected several cases of malpractice in land transactions in the state involving millions of ringgit.

However, he declined to elaborate on the matter until a probe by a special committee on the land transactions had been completed.

"Next week, a special committee led by Deputy Chief Minister I, Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, will start the probe into the land deals," he said.

He said this to reporters after officiating a function organised by the Association of Followers of the Tao Yi Ching faith, here. The 35-year-old association also presented aid to 400 senior citizens Saturday.

Besides Mohammad Fairus, two other members in the special committee are Deputy Chief Minister II Prof. Dr P. Ramasamy and Chairman of the State Committee for Education and Social Welfare Phee Boon Poh.

Lim said information on the malpractices in the land deals had also been conveyed to Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas.
