Penang open tender system approved

PENANG: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced Wednesday that the state exco had approved an open tender system for projects exceeding RM50,000.

“For projects between RM20,000 and RM50,000, a balloting system will be introduced,” he said, adding that a two-week objection period would be given for both the open tender and balloting systems.

Lim also said that the state government would be prudent in view of the RM35.6mil budget deficit announced last year.

“We want to run a clean and cost-effective government.”

Lim also announced that a high-level committee chaired by Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin had been set up to check on alleged discrepancies in land matters.

The other committee members are Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy and state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh.

On the missing documents at the state executive councillors’ offices in Komtar, Lim said he had directed state secretary Datuk Jamaludin Hasan to investigate the matter.

“Whether the files can be removed from the offices or not, the state secretary will investigate,” he added.
