Karpal comes to Anwar's defence again

GEORGE TOWN, Thurs:

DAP chairman Karpal Singh has again denied that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had tarnished Malaysia’s image during his series of ceramah in Johor. He said Anwar had the right to criticise the present ruling government's policies.

"There is nothing wrong in what he had said," Karpal said, in reference to Anwar's invective against the Barisan Nasional.

Anwar had accused the BN of cowardice for using the media to attack him instead of answering the questions he had posed to the governing party.

Karpal, meanwhile, also took a swipe at Anwar's two former friends, Prof Dr Chandra Muzaffar and Datuk K. S. Nallakarupan, for attacking the former prime minister.

"I find it highly improper for Chandra, at this point of time and during the height of the campaigning, to make disparaging remarks against Anwar. Is he trying to support the BN by his attacks on Anwar?"
Karpal said both Chandra and Nallakarupan should not forget that they were once with Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

It was also shameful for BN leaders to launch personal attacks against Anwar during campaigning, he told reporters after joining the DAP state and parliamentary candidates in making their election pledge at the Esplanade yesterday.

Led by party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, the DAP candidates pledged that they would not submit to Umno's political dominance and make Penang dynamic again by not depending on BN or Umno but on the will of the people.

They also pledged to be fair and just, especially to the poor and disadvantage regardless of race or religion.
