Samy Vellu Not To Resign

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA: Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) president S Samy Vellu said he would not resign and step down just because his party faced defeat in the 12th general election few days ago.

Samy denied the accusation on his bad leadership.

He criticised the Indian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and those who urged him to resign because the latter only knew to criticize but did nothing.

Commenting on the 128 Indian NGOs urged him to resign, he said, "ask them to resign first, I will follow their steps."

Samy Vellu said MIC was one of the Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, MIC always fight for Indian community especially on requesting government to set up mechanism to systematize and helped Indians.

"Suddenly there is a so-called organization came out and requested government allocation to be distributed to Indians. Those who criticize MIC is either blind or fool," he told reporters after chairing MIC working committee meeting.

Samy Vellu said he must stay on the current post because he had more important tasks after this, including to integrate and unite Indian community, to build stronger support for BN.

He said MIC central working committee would give full support to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak.

"We believe that it is time to give bigger support to both of them, so that they can lead us effectively. MIC will cooperate well with BN in order to face the difficult time and the coming challenges," he added.(Sin Chew Daily)
