Opposition launches 6-point KL Declaration without Pas

KUALA LUMPUR, Fri:

The opposition, minus Pas, launched the six-point Kuala Lumpur Declaration today that touches on issues like urban governance and the need to bring back local government elections.

The second point on crime and public safety was to task 50 percent of the police force with purely crime fighting duties. They also want to double police patrols in neighbourhoods.

Their third point was on better planned and integrated public transportation system within Kuala Lumpur and its suburbs. They also highlighted the need to make transport facilities safe and accessible to the disabled.

The declaration also focused on environmental concerns and sustainable development where it touched on air quality and destruction of hill slopes and natural forests.

The fifth point was on the rising cost of living where the opposition want to eradicate poverty, raise the income level of the low-income group and stem the rising inflation figures. They also want to preserve cultural heritage of all races and to allow the flourishing of cultural spaces to maintain harmony.
The press conference was chaired by Parti Keadilan Rakyat secretary-general Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. Among those present were Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR candidate for Lembah Pantai), Tian Chua (PKR candidate for Batu), Ibrahim Yaakob (PKR candidate for Setiawangsa), Dr Tan Seng Giaw (DAP candidate Kepong), Teresa Kok (DAP candidate for Seputeh) and Fong Kui Lun (DAP candidate for Bukit Bintang).

Asked why Pas was not part of the declaration, Khalid evaded the question and simply said that the Pas candidate was informed of the declaration and he was willing to work together. There was neither Pas candidate flag nor its flag at the press conference.
