Time For Voters To Reject DAP In Bukit Bintang

KUALA LUMPUR, March 2 (Bernama)-- It is time for voters in the Bukit Bintang constituency to reject DAP and choose Barisan Nasional (BN) for a more brilliant future, said BN candidate for the seat Datuk Dr Lee Chong Meng, here Sunday.

He said that only the BN could further develop the constituency and urged voters to vote for the party so that he could propose plans to expand the development of Bukit Bintang.

Speaking at a press conference after attending the "Leader with Rakyat" session, Lee said that the support gained from voters was increasing after intensive campaigning in the Imbi market, regarded as the nerve centre of Bukit Bintang.

On postal votes issue raised by DAP's Fong Kui Lan, he said that it was an old issue and brought up to gain sympathy votes from the Chinese community.

He said that there were a lot of voters there, mostly policemen on duty to maintain security, especially in the Bukit Bintang constituency, which was always swarmed with tourists. Apart from that the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) in Sungai Besi is also located in the Bukit Bintang constituency.

Dr Lee said that the opposition was also raising issues on the fuel price hike, however he believed that the voters have accepted the situation after the government's explanation.

He said that the BN government had always given priority to the rakyat's welfare, like giving subsidies for cooking oil, flour and sugar.

Regarding traffic jams, an issue brought up by the opposition, he said that the population of Kuala Lumpur is 2.2 million with 2.7 million vehicles, as such the problem could not be solved instantly.

In the 2004 general election, Fong won the seat with a slim majority of 304 votes. The Bukit Bintang parliament seat has 59,986 registered voters.
