Kelantan MCA’s blueprint for non-Malays

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan MCA will focus on nine welfare aspects of the non-Malays to attract voters, its liaison chairman Tan Sri Lau Yin Pin said.

He said they had drawn up a four-year plan for the state that included local community issues such as housing, land, education, economy, basic rights of non-Malays and cemetery maintenance.

Lau said land policy and housing were among the major problems faced by Kelantanese, as the PAS Government had never built low-cost houses and the majority of the people could not afford medium-cost houses.

He added that the blueprint, to be launched when Barisan Nasional revealed its manifesto for Kelantan, would make it easier for the non-Malays to own land.

Lau also said they would ensure more participation of non-Malays in the economy, and build more schools and education institutions.

He said non-Malays made up 5% of the population, of which about 3% were Chinese while the others were Indians and Malaysian Thais.

Lau also said they would target the young generation that was frustrated with PAS for not developing their home state.

“There is a wind of change blowing in Kelantan. Barisan has a good chance to take over and form the government.

“We will also explain to the Chinese community that they should not go on an ad-hoc basis,” he said at a press conference in Wisma MCA here yesterday.

Lau said the Chinese community must support MCA’s sole state seat candidate, Tan Ken Ten, who is contesting in Kota Lama.

“We must form the Barisan Government so the state can move forward and not be left behind,” he said.
