Kampung Baru Redevelopment In The Pipeline, Says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- The government will advertise the Kampung Baru redevelopment plan beginning April for public scrutiny, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said making public the local structure plan would be the first step in the comprehensive development of Kampung Baru.

"The Prime Minister had agreed on the concept. Let us get the reaction of the public on the development concept and carry out the evaluation and changes needed.

"But believe me, the development of Kampung Baru will be implemented," he said when campaigning for Barisan Nasional candidates in the Titiwangsa parliamentary constituency at Desa Pandan here tonight.

This was Najib's first campaign outside the Pekan parliamentary constituency, which he is contesting.

Najib said Titiwangsa voters would not be neglected as the redevelopment of Kampung Baru would reduce poverty and squatters in the constituency.

"We hope to achieve zero squatters so that there will be no poor dwellers in the Federal Territory," he said, adding that the redevelopment would improve the livelihood of the people in the long run.
